Capital Punishment - Both sides

Murder is the unlawful killing of another human being with an intentional or criminal intent. Many believe that these criminals deserve one fate: death. The death penalty, is the maximum sentence used in punishing people who kill another human being - and is a very controversial method of punishment. In most states, a person convicted of first degree murder has the potential to be given the death penalty. Capital punishment is a subject that can be counted upon to stir emotion and controversy into
any conversation or argument. The very concept provokes a profusion of valid questions and opinions. Today's daily world of crime and violence calls for punishment of a severe nature, and many citizens argue that the punishment necessary is the death penalty. These people quote passages such as the "an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" concept from the Old Testament of the Bible.
Opponents of the death penalty claim that sentencing a person to death does not change the reality of the situation; the harm already done simply cannot be fixed from a vengeance standpoint. You cannot bring the murdered person back by taking the prisoner's life and that by executing a prisinor, you are only making the person vanish or non existent and that doesn't give them the opportunity to repent or even suffer for the crime that has been committed. Proponents of capital punishment tend to defend their opinion mainly on two grounds: death is a fitting punishment for murder, and executions maximize public safety through incapacitation and deterrence. So what do you think? Share your thoughts!

So now I shud tell you that its a very good topic to share views on.
On this topic the 2 main issues on which i would like to talk about is
1. I believe that 4 murdering a person another person shud not be given a death sentence as first of all we r not giving a chance 2 that person for improving and secondly that person is easily revived of guilt as he doesn't have 2 live wth tat guilt.
2. The other issue is the Biblical verse.
It shud be made clear to all who support death sentence that, at that time it was quite forward to say that coz then people used to kill the other 4 a eye. so it was an improved one.
at last I sum up by saying repentance is the best punishment.

hey first of all i got to say a big thnks for droping by in my blog and commenting..

now as per the post its a good one...y do people kill ..ok some kill for fun (like a cycho)some kill wen they get pissed of(pissed of means to much frustrated)...

killin a person does not always means that the person is a mass murderer and a born criminal..the nature of one can be known only by takin not all by the way he behaves..

but as per news ...there r newspapers and tv channels because only if they have criminals at large other wise there is nothing which can be news...

it was good to read ur view...

"An eye for an eye leaves the entire world blind" is another famous quote. But for the most rarest cases, I agree with death penalty. A person who, if set free, will harm other people deserve to die and just by keeping them alive and providing food from the people's pocket is not acceptable. Now a days, prison is the place where you'll get good food without any work. if that is the case people will only do crime so that they could go to prison and leave there happily which is an irony. Prisons should be atleast in a way where people should hate to go if not fear to go.

Sentencing a person for death would not make any huge difference as there is no room for the guilt-person to realise the mistake and correct him/herself. & Whether he would want to or not, there would be no point for him cos he will die at the end of the day anyway. At the same time, this will alarm the other people not to do such offence so that they will not have to lost their life!
Every coin has two sides.
Good post!

i meant tat wen at tat time people killed each other for just a loss of an eye or tooth then saying the quote in ur post was quite forward but later it came the u shud forgive such people who do bad to you.

Arun said...

Priya,

An eye for an eye or toth for a tooth doesn't mean that people killed for an eye or a tooth in those days. It just means that for every wrong done there should be a compensating measure of justice.

intresting..it is always fun to talk about stuff when you really don't face it...my dad was murdered for no reason...i wud not tell the story..yes because its a story...we had a terrible five months of threats and everyday was hell...people in locality new about it...finally when that mother fucker put his threats into action no body came to help...i would really want him to die...but he has a very good crminal lawyer who is trying to prove him innocent...my neighbours really suck...he is still threatening us and so all his friends...neibhours have shut their mouth and closed their eyes...he does not regret for anything...why would we want him alive...?? the pain what we have all these years no one can understand...my family and has not done any harm to anyone...but still we are alone...but thanks to all these people...we are now STRONGER...my advice to all here reading this...anything can happen in life...i learned a lesson...if again anything such happens in my life like this..instead to run and scream for help and to be near my loved ones...i shall take a pen and paper...note down the timings...the colour of clothes i was wearing and total number of people gathered around..all the minute details should be collected...and please do not beg around for your neighbours car to drive till hospital...they will say it is a police case and they can't do anything....ya please please do collect all the information and time is the most important...the lawyer when asked about time it took us to reach down to my dad's body...i said 3 min and my mom said 4 min...this became a contradicting statement which went against us...i think all the criminals should be killed and kept to rot so that it sets an example...i think you will not like such comment here...you may delete it...

I am totally against capital punishment.
For one, the criminal must be given a 2nd chance.
Secondly, if there is no chance for improvement, he or she must be given life imprisonment with rigorous slavery and community service added in to his low profile agenda.
But hardned or psychotic criminals must be given death by torture. Sounds cruel to you, but it will be a welcome suggestion to the family members and relatives of the victimised.
Aneesh,
You need to update your knowledge of prisons. Now a days, the prisoners are made to work hard to earn their keep.
