The art of Lying!

I am not a firm believer in the proverb 'Honesty is the best policy'. While I'm not denying that lying is morally incorrect, I truly believe that 'cushioning' the truth with a few white lies in our daily lives is more than acceptable. In fact, most lies are harmless. Untruths like 'I can't wait to read your book!', ‘Your pudding is divine', or 'that coat makes you look so handsome' are often told to make someone feel better. These fibs or white lies come up so often that the person on the receiving end can hardly feel betrayed or deceived.Often, people lie or rather exaggerate to get something in return. For instance, I sometimes tell my mother that the food in our office sucks and I’m so tired doing the laundry all by myself over the week. Well... as a matter of fact, the food really does suck and I’m really tired doing the laundryL..!! This never fails to strike a chord of sympathy with her and so I always end up getting royal treatment at home when I visit during the weekend. Now, can you imagine what my day would be like if I didn't say this? I'd be living on bread and biscuits all weekend!!!People also lie at the workplace or at school. Though the old 'the dog ate my homework' routine may not work any more, you might just get away with something else. And who is to say you are 'deceiving' your teacher? A tiny deviation from the truth is nothing to be ashamed of!Thus, deception to a certain extent is justified. In most scenarios, it makes people get along better or sometimes it is just a means to an end. Either ways, as long as there is no serious harm done, I believe a few white lies are imperative for any relationship to flourish.

Well, I know that the response if I say "Whatever you've written is true" wud be like...."who doesnt know that its true?"

So, I'll shut my mouth in this, and would rather say....that its nic that u brought the truth to everyone's notice....

And yes, if you ever wndered how bad lieing can get you....the best example is to watch a movie called "Big Fat Liar", which, by the way, I am sure that you've seen!

Loved every word you wrote....its all true....OOPS....I finally said the most obvious. Haha.

hah :) Gagan, intelligent use of words there.. now tel me if I lied there??!! lol!! :)

Aterall, the world has changed a lot, lying is not a sin in modern world. Everyone lies, some accept it, some don't

Lying for others good which causes no harm is acceptable :)but there are people who lie for no good reason. The dishonest ones!!

Priya Joyce said...

so I completely agree wth u on the fact of hiding truths or cushioning truths.
Its in one way playing with others psychology.
I have put some part of it on my post half truths (that's awful)

BTW thanx 4 commenting.

I totally agree with the last line...lol !!

And also with your last post...controversial or not, being a woman myself, yet I;d say womane are bad drivers.

As simple a thing as changing lanes, whie a guy will take a smooth cut without almost no effort, a girl will take a dumb ass c-turn and end up sprawled in the middle of the road with vehicles honking left-right-center !!!

Damn irritatin !
Which is why i dont drive...

Some white lies are excused, but not lies that are meant to hurt, or lies that are said with some ulterior motives.

Honesty. I honestly don’t know what people mean by this. Can honesty be an umbrella term which includes all kinds in different contexts on various occasions of life, It’s like how far you’re truly accountable to your self on all your deeds.
So abstract for a word, I (humbly) believe lying is a part of growing up, if you’ve not lied, then it must be truly something.
“ few white lies are imperative for a relationship to flourish, Agreed, but not the kind of well intended lies.

And mothers do have a way. She exactly knows when her kid is honest and when he/she is not. She wouldn’t mind for she knows her child best!!!
